The following message is transmitted at the request of the
Chugach National Forest Avalanche Center.

...THE CHUGACH NATIONAL FOREST AVALANCHE INFORMATION CENTER HAS
ISSUED AN AVALANCHE WARNING FOR THE FOLLOWING AREAS: GIRDWOOD,
PORTAGE, WHITTIER, AND TURNAGAIN PASS FROM THURSDAY NOVEMBER 27
AT 12:00 PM TO FRIDAY NOVEMBER 28 AT 6:00 AM...

* WHAT...The backcountry avalanche danger is HIGH. Very dangerous
avalanche conditions exist.


* WHERE...For the Western Chugach and Kenai Mountains in and
around Girdwood, Portage Valley, Whittier, and Turnagain Pass.


* WHEN...In effect from Thursday 12:00 PM AKST through Friday 6:00
AM AKST.


* IMPACTS...Heavy snowfall and strong winds will create widespread
areas of unstable snow. Both human triggered and natural large
avalanches are likely. Debris from avalanches above may run into
valley bottoms. Avalanche conditions will remain very dangerous
immediately after the snow finishes.


* PRECAUTIONARY / PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...Travel in avalanche
terrain is NOT recommended. Backcountry travelers should stay
off of...and out from underneath...slopes steeper than 30
degrees. Avalanches may run long distances.


Similar avalanche danger may exist at locations outside the
coverage area of this or any avalanche center.

* WHAT...Wintry mix of snow and rain expected. Total snow
accumulation of 6 to 14 inches.

* WHERE...Turnagain Pass.

* WHEN...Until 3 AM AKST Friday.

* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions
could impact the holiday travel.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Snow levels will remain between approximately
1,200 ft and 1,600 ft. Snow may mix with or change to all rain
Thursday as temperatures climb into the mid 30s. Any rain on snow
covered surfaces may lead to ponding of water on roadways and
create hazardous travel conditions.
