For the Freeze Watch, sub-freezing temperatures as low as 10 above possible. * WHERE...In Florida, Gadsden and Northern Liberty Counties. In Georgia, Baker, Decatur, Dougherty, Grady, Lee, and Mitchell Counties. * WHEN...From Monday evening through Tuesday morning. * IMPACTS...Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures. Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.
Wear protective clothing such as a hat, facemask and heavy gloves or mittens if you have plans to be outdoors. Keep pets indoors as much as possible. Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills inside. If you do not have heat in your home or lack shelter, you can call 211 for assistance locating appropriate shelter from the cold. Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.
