For the Cold Weather Advisory, very cold wind chills as low as 12 expected. For the Freeze Watch, sub-freezing temperatures as low as 27 possible. * WHERE...A portion of southeast Georgia. * WHEN...For the Freeze Warning and Cold Weather Advisory, from 10 PM this evening to 10 AM EST Tuesday. For the Freeze Watch, from Tuesday evening through Wednesday morning. * IMPACTS...The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 12 above zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Wind chill values can lead to hypothermia with prolonged exposure. Appropriate action should be taken to ensure tender vegetation and outdoor pets have adequate protection from the cold temperatures. Young children, the elderly and the homeless are especially vulnerable to the cold. Take measures to protect them.
Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing. Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold.
