SMWLIX The National Weather Service in New Orleans has issued a * Special Marine Warning for... Coastal Waters from Port Fourchon LA to Lower Atchafalaya River LA out 20 nm... Coastal waters from Port Fourchon Louisiana to Lower Atchafalaya River LA from 20 to 60 NM... * Until 715 AM CDT. * At 550 AM CDT, a cluster of severe thunderstorms capable of producing waterspouts was located 20 nm east of Ship Shoal 198, or 23 nm south of Isle Derniers. The cluster of severe thunderstorms were nearly stationary. HAZARD...Waterspouts and wind gusts 34 knots or greater. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Waterspouts can quickly form and capsize boats...damage vessels and oil rigs...and create suddenly higher waves. Small craft could be damaged in briefly higher winds and suddenly higher waves. * The cluster of severe thunderstorms will remain over mainly open waters.
Strong winds will be dangerous for boaters or anyone near the water. Boaters should avoid waterspouts and never try to navigate near them. Make sure all on board are wearing life jackets. Seek shelter or move to safe harbor until hazardous weather passes.

At 509 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated a strong thunderstorm, capable of producing winds to around 30 knots and weak waterspouts. This thunderstorm was located 31 nm east of Ship Shoal 295, or 47 nm south of Isle Derniers, moving north at 5 knots. Mariners can expect gusty winds to around 30 knots, locally higher waves and dangerous lightning strikes. Boaters should seek safe harbor immediately until this activity passes. Brief, weak waterspouts are possible with this activity. Remain on alert in case warnings are issued for waterspout development.

This cluster of thunderstorms is generally located along a line extending from 6 nm southwest of Venice to 10 nm west of Louisiana Offshore Oil Port to 32 nm south of Isle Derniers, moving west at 10 knots.
