Flash Flood: RADAR AND GAUGE INDICATED
...FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 1045 PM EDT THIS EVENING FOR NORTHEASTERN SURRY COUNTY... At 906 PM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated that thunderstorms produced between 2 and 3.5 inches of rain since 630pm. Flooding impacts will continue, but no additional rainfall is expected. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Mount Airy... Flat Rock... Woodville... Westfield... This includes the following streams and drainages... Chinquapin Creek, Pinch Gut Creek, Johnson Creek, Ararat River, Silverleaf Creek, Meadow Branch, Big Creek, Flat Shoal Creek and Faulkner Creek.
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
