The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
South Central Amherst County in central Virginia...
North Central Campbell County in central Virginia...
The City of Lynchburg in central Virginia...

* Until 1115 PM EDT.

* At 709 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
heavy rain across the warned area. Up to 1.5 inches of rain have
fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 4 inches in 1 hour.
Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly, especially
in the city of Lynchburg.

HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

SOURCE...Radar.

IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban
areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as
other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

This includes the following streams and drainages...
Burton Creek, Harris Creek, Blackwater Creek, Fishing Creek, James

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.

* WHERE...Portions of southwest Virginia, including the following
counties and independent city, Amherst, Bedford, Campbell, the
City of Lynchburg and Botetourt.

* WHEN...Until 945 PM EDT.

* IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.
Water over roadways.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 646 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin
shortly in the advisory area. Up to 2 inches of rain have
fallen.
- This includes the following streams and drainages...
Bore Auger Creek, Big Otter River and Blackwater Creek.
Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are expected over
the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding.
