...EXTREME COLD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON CST TUESDAY... * WHAT...Dangerously cold wind chills below 10 degrees to as low as 5 to 10 degrees below zero with low temperatures between 5 to 20 degrees. * WHERE...Portions of southeast Arkansas, northeast Louisiana, and central, east central, north central, northeast, northwest, south central, southeast, southwest, and west central Mississippi. * WHEN...Until noon CST Tuesday. * IMPACTS...Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures. An extended period of freezing temperatures could cause ruptured water pipes. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The coldest wind chills are expected tonight, but dangerous cold temperatures and wind chills are expected to persist through Tuesday morning.
Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must go outside. To prevent water pipes from freezing; wrap or drain or allow them to drip slowly. Drain in-ground sprinkler systems and cover above ground pipes. Keep pets indoors as much as possible. Make sure outdoor animals have a warm, dry shelter, food, and unfrozen water. Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills inside.
