...EXTREME COLD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 AM MST /NOON CST/ MONDAY... ...FREEZING FOG ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 AM MST /NOON CST/ MONDAY... * WHAT...For the Extreme Cold Warning, dangerously cold wind chills as low as 9 below. For the Freezing Fog Advisory, visibility one mile or less in freezing fog. * WHERE...Portions of southeast New Mexico and southwest and western Texas. * WHEN...Until 11 AM MST /noon CST/ Monday. * IMPACTS...The cold wind chills as low as 10 below zero could result in hypothermia if precautions are not taken. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures. An extended period of freezing temperatures could cause ruptured water pipes. Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous. Driving will be hazardous due to low visibility and icing on roadways, especially elevated roads, bridges, and overpasses.
Remain indoors if possible. Cover all exposed skin and limit time outside if you must go out. Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves. Cover outdoor faucets. To prevent water pipes from freezing wrap or drain or allow them to drip slowly. Bring pets indoors, or ensure that they have warm, dry shelter. Make sure outdoor animals have a warm, dry shelter, food, and unfrozen water. If driving, slow down, use your headlights, and leave plenty of distance ahead of you. Take it slow when driving as black ice may form and lead to hazardous road conditions. Use extreme caution on overpasses.
